So driving home last night I noticed that my clutch pedal wasn't behaving as normal. Usually when i depress the clutch it disengages the engine straight away almost from the top of travel of the pedal. However, now it has to travel a fair few cms (?) before it disengages the engine. Could this be the clutch slipping or just the pedal? The vehicle is driveable but I don't wish to cause unnecessary damage! being a novice I wasn't sure how to correctly diagnose the problem. I suppose the alternative is to chuck it in the garage and ask them to see what the problems are along with my steering issues (see previous post)

Cheers

Hi all,

Having issues steering, 'larry' ever since I got him just Wanders all over the road. At first I thought it may have been the rusted stiff springs having no give, so steers with the road camber, bumps etc.... But googling it all last night it may seem a lot more serious. Sat I'll check my swivels have oil etc, but it seems it may be the steering relay or rods etc.... That's beyond my very basic skills.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Well i have had a bit of luck. I have been given reconditioned 2.5 td from a later 90. The 2.25 diesel in clumper is slowly dieing so im going to replace it with the TD. the only problem is that the distribution pump on theTD has failed but as yet mor e luck would have it, i have a pump off a 2.5 N/A that will fit and do the job though as this lacks the diaphram of the TDs pump, it will be a few hp less as i understand it.
I have a few questions though.
Firstly, will i have to move an offside engine mount ?
Will the flywheel housing bolt straight up to the gearbox bell housing or will i have to drill for/remove a stud ?
will my standard newish rad be up to keeping it cool ?
will i need to fit an oil cooler ?

Any help greatly appreciated

i have let the pictures tell the start of the story :)
*******blatent plug alert*******
the boys at "Cumbria Landrovers" need to take all the credit for this one - they really got me out of the shit :(
after killing the old engine (2.5n/a) i was ......creek........no paddle etc.............
so they towed it in and stripped it out the only thing was they did not have a spare 2.5n/a lying about (most customers object to having their engine pinched)
but lying forgotten in the corner was a 90/series offroad hybrid that was never going to see the road again ...........
so before we knew it - it was in and running - and running well - if very noisy - no exhaust :/
there was no way on earth it would mate up to the standard exhaust system - neither would the hybrid system fit ermintrude either :(
this is where these boys come into their own......................
impossible is not a word they understand
i know you can buy modified exhaust systems to suit transplants - but the budget was limited and time was tight (they are allways busy and did me a favour 'cos i was stuck)
if you look at picture 4 you can see the result :)
even though it is temporary it is spot on and quiet
its a 90 downpipe welded to a disco tailpipe with a mounting welded to the bulkhead outrigger and mounted on proper rubbers - as i say it works great :D

performance wise - much better - much quieter - more get up and go - and best off all the heater blows out very warm air

so far so good - watch this space..................................

Good morning everyone, been meaning to pop round for some time since Fluffle let me in on your secret location...!

I'm Ed Parrott, and with my wife Holly we own 2 series 3's (and a 2a which is being rebuilt more as a 3) and they are our everyday transport.

Our No. 1 is Kettle, a 1983 88" HT converted SW...just back from minor rebuild after a smash on the M5 in January...

Our No. 2 is The 109, a 1971 109" SW, rebuilt at some point on a military chassis...being modified into a camper primarily for weekending, and giving me lots of headaches!

I'm a machinist by trade and so i've been able to make a number of modifications to them, both of which are converted to 200TDi's, but retaining their 4-speed gearboxes and OD's. I'm sure at some point i'll do a write up of them both.
